Peace boosts tourism sector with anticipated 20% increase in tourist arrival in 2011 - North & East people yet to fully benefit

Tourist arrivals into Sri Lanka are expected to grow by 20 percent to a record of more than 780,000 this year, thanks to peace and growing homestays and apartment rentals to accommodate a post-war influx of visitors after the end of a 25-year civil war.

However, people of the North and East areas affected by war and with huge potential for tourism related investment yet to realise the full benefits due to lack of investments by investors. Expatriates tamil businessmen should seriouly think about investing in these areas before it is too late in order to grasp the existing attractive opportunities.

There is no doubt that while generating income for the investors, this will enormously help the local community in terms of employment and creation of small businesses realising the full benefits of peace.
