New Sports Stadium is to be constructed in Kilinochi

With the view to develop the sports in the North East of the areas, Sri Ranga MP takes action to develop facilities, sportsmen and sportswomen in the war affected Kilinochi and Mullaitivu districts.

At the request made by Sri Ranga MP, the Government Minister of Sports Hon. Mahindananada Aluthgamage visited Kilinochi and Mullaitivu districts. During the visit he informed the audience that the Government is planning to build a stadium in Kilinochi at a cost of Rs 300 millions and it will be provided with advanced sports facilities. This is the first stadium to be developed based on the Government’s plan to construct such stadiums in all provinces. He also promised to develop sports grounds at five schools in Kilinochi and Mullaitive districts.

Through Sri Ranga MP the Sports Minster has come to know the availability of best sportsmen and sportswomen in the area whose talents should be developed further to bring them to the provincial and national levels.

Plans are underway to provide some financial assistance for the good sportsmen and sportswomen in order to encourage them to do better. Sports trainings were also provided during the tour of these officials.

Sri Ranga MP, Government Agent of Kilinochi Mrs Rubavathi, Additional Government Agent of Mullativu and other sports officers also participated in the tour of the area.
