“We will give all help to Sri Lanka” - India's External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna

India would do whatever it could to support Sri Lanka's efforts to find a political settlement acceptable to all the communities, including the Tamils, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said on Thursday



Mr. Krishna detailed the assistance given by New Delhi to Colombo for rehabilitation and restoration of infrastructure. “Our primary objective in all that we are doing in Sri Lanka is to ensure the welfare and wellbeing of Sri Lankan Tamils, including the IDPs, and to assist in the development of Northern Sri Lanka.”



On the issue of human rights violations vis-à-vis U.N. report and videos of Channel 4 television, Mr. Krishna said, “Presently, our focus should be on the welfare and wellbeing of Tamils in Sri Lanka. I have, nonetheless, stressed to my Sri Lankan counterpart, need for an early withdrawal of emergency regulations, investigations into allegations of human rights violations, restoration of normality in the affected areas and redress of humanitarian concerns of affected families.”
